On Women's Day...

From the villages of UP-Bihar to the villas in the metros, from the deserted Rajasthan to the developing North-East, the stature of a lady is growing for sure... indeed at some places, the lady, stil, is subjected to suppressions... but women now can at least think to survive in open... they can express their hearts out and more importantly they can have the privilege to be educated! The changing scenes indeed provide a sigh of relief.

A trendiest topic at present, Rahul Gandhi’s interview with Arnab Goswami, where every question to the prince of the gandhian-nehru dynasty had the same answer “We need to focus on Women’s empowerment…”  goes on to suggest one and the same belief, empower the women, the nation would emerge powerful for sure.

Perhaps Rahul Gandhi is saying the similar stuff which his forefather Late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru quoted once, “If you educate a man, you educate an individual, if you educate a women, you educate the whole family!” Isn’t this statement completely justifiable?

After wandering around several places in the country, I would proudly say that yes, the status of a girl is enhancing, she can now lead a more free, dignified and a literate life. When I heard about the incident that took place in Janakpuri, the Delhi Gang rape, which shook the entire nation, I was totally trapped in a cage of sorrow. Not only me, but the entire nation was weeping for the innocent lady. This again arose a question on the safety of women in India. Perhaps then Mr. Gandhi acquired the shape of a pulp and got himself wrapped up in a peel!

But then, the incident provoked the ladies here in Delhi to get more vigilant, acquire more strength from within and fight the beasts with a higher morale. Perhaps, that is why a saw a man getting slapped in the blue line metro by a beautiful young lady who ‘followed’ me till Sector-62! If only we could have interacted, I would have got to know what a girl thinks now in Delhi/NCR regarding her freedom! But her gesture in the metro coach suggested that a lady now is capable to give a strong blow to the ones who try to harass her! Hats off S…. I did get to know only this much of her name..!

On the contemporary note, we can now find more and more girls in the public transports, more and more girls in the shopping malls, more and more girls going abroad and more and more girls becoming officers! This definitely goes on to make all of us proud. But the thing that gives a Bihar born boy like me a reason to boast upon is the changing scenarios in Bihar. The small girls, daughters of a poor farmer are going schools and learning the basics, the beggars are getting their daughters studied in government schools. Last time when I went there, the daughter of the maid working in my haveli came to my sister and said in maithili, “Didi hamra English mai ABCD seekhel jai chhai…” which in our ‘followed’ language means, “Didi I am been taught ABCD in school these day…”. This indeed means a lot to all of us from Bihar, a state which has always been the origin to every great person or a scintillating scene in India, but is always assumed to be a backward region! Perhaps all would have got a clue now, that what my next article is going to be based upon!

Anyways, I would like to end up saying, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a wife, all are meant to pay tribute not tantrums! Think over it!
